August 2008: BOG & the Monkey
BOG is always one of the highlights of the year. It's definitely no longer about the golf, especially with the tight group this year, and it's all about the friends and family. Like I told Ben, it's really the only chance that we would ever get where we could justify just the guys (with no kids or wives) actually getting to spend time together and really catching up (on the golf course). We're just all super lucky that we have significant others that come along so we don't miss them all so much.
This was also the first year where the number of golfers was equalled by the number of kids. There were more kids than moms/ wives. The Otani 3, Elia, Aida, Caden, Ethan, Sydney... and next year there will be more on the way assuming Cameron is there, and our new one is there (plus we were laughing/ teasing Kath/ Renee/ Jerilyn about more kids on their side too).
The monkey omen for me was when Sydney and I saw Matt before the first tee off. Sydney, you saw the monkey (which is the historical last place prize) and grabbed it from Matt, hugged it and said "mon-key, mon-key." I then proceeded (not on purpose) to shoot the three worst rounds I've shot in 5 years (though i drove the ball like a madman).
For the third year in a row I golfed all rounds with Ben (thanks Ian). We loved rooming with Ian and Kath, I love those special moments like when Ian was feeding Sydney her bottle and then were watching golfers going by #8 on Perrigrin.
Things to remember for next year:
- The pool was FREEZING, bring your wetsuits
- Remember the hot dog strategy, fill your bun up with condiments first and then put the dog in.
- Book Lucky and Matt's room for a view of the 9th hole
- Wiggles DVD is a must
- Bring tupperware, there is always too much food
I need to start training for 2009. Sydney, the monkey is yours for one year.
