NYC
Mommy and daddy's first trip without the kids. We decided to turn a business trip for daddy (NHL 11 launch event with Toews and Kane, NBA Triple Double event pre-work) into a week in New York. Neither of us had visited before, and many thanks to Popo and Gong Gong for coming to Vancouver to look after the kids for a week.
We had a great time.
- Sunday we took in a Yankees game. So much tradition. An amazing ballpark as well. Strange thing to see in New York but all the calories for fast food are posted by the vendors. No thanks on the popcorn.
- A few great dinners. The first dinner was Esca (Batali co-owned) with a focus on seafood. Honestly, I wasn't a fan. I had the skate and it was brutal. Geneva liked it. An anniversary dinner at Gordon Ramsey's London (fantastic), other dinner at Babbo (another Batali) which was the best dinner of the trip (Batali has turned me into a fan of black ink squid linguine, and the desserts were yummy), and a group dinner post NHL launch at the Collective (a funky and fantastic selection by Jen Riley - 2010 is the year I was introduced to various takes on chicken and waffles). Visits to Katz's Deli and Lombardi's pizza after marathon walks with Geneva through Midtown, Financial District, Chinatown, Soho... there was a lot of great eating.
- We also took in Rock of Ages on Broadway, spent some time with Toews and Kane, had sushi with the NBA, walked around, shopped (Banana Republic 50% off, Geve ALMOST invested in a Bottega bag after meeting two new "friends"), took in some of the crowds for Fashion Week.
So much fun hanging out again, even though we missed the kids a ton. Although truth be told, we skyped with them everyday and by the third day they were more interested in watching Caliou than they were in chatting with us... sigh.
