Winter Classic - Bruins for a Day
Ong Noi was ecstatic the night before. He kept asking me "can we get to the game at 9:30 a.m.?", to which I would respond "dad, the first bus is at 11 a.m., and the game doesn't start until 1:00 p.m. - meaning puck drop is 1:45 p.m.."
Though giddy like a little school boy, Ong Noi slept in until 10:00 a.m. and we JUST made the last bus at 12:30 p.m. :) A lesson in time management we would not repeat the rest of this trip. No biggy overall as we enjoyed breakfast in, and a quiet bus ride.
Once we got to Fenway though, it was total madness. We entered the historic home of the Red Sox at 12:45 p.m. and it took us 30 minutes to walk seven sections over to our seats.
Seating for a hockey game in a baseball stadium is a little tricky. The sightlines were not that great as the seats were pretty far from the field, and though Fenway was epic and rich with history, it's still is an old park where you have to stand to see over the people in front of you. Still, seeing Bobby Clarke and Bobby Orr take that honourary faceoff was great. We would join in on the "let's go Bruins" chants, despite the fact that the Flyers' girlfriends were behind us (annoying...).
At one point, they announced Oilers nemesis Kerry Fraser as the ref, and I of course boo'ed... and got strange looks from the row in front of us. Then the announced the linesmen and the little 8 year old girl in front of me said "that's my daddy." Ooops.
